Pakistan captain Babar Azam has had a torrid World Cup campaign so far.

The 28-year-old has scored just 39 runs from five matches in the T20 World Cup 2022 so far and he has been heavily criticised by the media and the fans.

Former Pakistan players have also joined in with their assessment of what has gone wrong from the player in Australia so far.  Previously, he was criticised for his passive approach in the Asia Cup.

It will be interesting to see if Babar Azam can bounce back strongly in the World Cup semi final against New Zealand later today.

Pakistan were down and out at one stage but they have done remarkably well to get back into the tournament and secure their place in the final four.

Now Pakistan coach Matthew Hayden has urged fans to be patient with the player and he believes the skipper could produce a special performance in the semis against New Zealand.

Babar Azam is a world class player on his day and Pakistan will need his experience and quality against an elite bowling attack from the Kiwis.

As quoted by Hindustan Times, Hayden said:

"There's no question that Babar has been under some adversity. That will make him not only an even greater player...You can't continue to keep on punching out hundreds and 50s and strike rates of 140-plus.

"There's got to be moments in time where there's a lull. And as we all know about the weather, once there's a lull, there's often a storm that follows. So look out, rest of the world, because I think you're about to see something very special from Babar."
