India recently named their squad for the upcoming tour to New Zealand and Shubman Gill has been called up for the T20I fixtures.

Gill has been in impressive form during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and he recently smashed a 55-ball 126 to propel Punjab into the semi-finals.

The 23-year-old is undoubtedly the next big thing in Indian cricket and he will be hoping to make his mark against the Kiwis in the upcoming T20I series.

Reflecting on his call-up, the young batsman has now revealed that the onus is now on him to prove that his selection was justified and he will be looking to prove his worth.

Gill is already a part of India's ODI setup but he has been overlooked for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. With the ODI World Cup in India next year, this is a golden opportunity for the player to showcase his qualities and cement his place in the Indian squad.

As quoted by News18, the youngster said:

"It is a good feeling to get selected for the Indian team in any format. Now I have to show that I deserve this chance."

There is no doubt Shubman Gill can be an important player for India in the shortest format of the game. He has already proven his pedigree in the Indian Premier League.
