For the second consecutive match, Shikhar Dhawan remains sidelined for Punjab Kings (PBKS) due to a shoulder injury, with Sam Curran stepping up as the leader against Mumbai Indians. Reports suggest Dhawan's absence may extend for a couple more games.

Following an injury sustained during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Shikhar Dhawan is currently undergoing rehabilitation, confirmed by Punjab's spin bowling coach, Sunil Joshi.

Despite not being in peak form, Dhawan remained one of the top run-getters for Punjab this season.

Before the match, Dhawan was spotted engaging in a chat with his former Indian opening partner, Rohit Sharma, cherishing about their long-standing partnership.

Do or Die battle for Mumbai and Punjab

Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians face off at Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali. Both teams suffered defeats in their last matches; the Kings narrowly lost to Rajasthan Royals, while Mumbai are seeking a comeback after their loss to arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings. With both sides eager for redemption, a victory is crucial for their league standings.

Winning the toss, Punjab Kings stand-in captain Sam Curran in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan chose bowling. Sam Curran's decision to bowl after winning the toss aligns with what Mumbai Indians' captain Hardik Pandya would likely have chosen.

Mumbai lost the wicket of Ishan Kishan early but Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav steadied the ship with good partnership. However, the former MI skipper was undone by the PBKS stand-in captain.

At the time of publishing, Mumbai have raced to 109-2 after 13 overs, with SKY and Tilak Varma at the middle.
