In the Asia Cup 2023 final at the R Premadasa Stadium, where spin and weather were expected to dominate the headlines, Mohammed Siraj's breathtaking five-wicket haul within 16 balls turned the tables on Sri Lanka. Yet, amidst this stunning performance, it was Virat Kohli's laughter that became the talk of the town.

Kohli's laughter highlights Siraj's record-breaking over

Siraj's magic spell began in the fourth over of the innings. The young pacer displayed remarkable skill, dismissing three of the top Sri Lankan batsmen back-to-back. As Siraj stood on the cusp of joining the exclusive club of Indian bowlers with ODI hat-tricks, captain Rohit Sharma placed an overloaded slip cordon to back him. But the following moment was nothing short of comical.

Dhananjaya de Silva, facing the hat-trick delivery, smartly pushed the ball through an unguarded mid-on area. With no fielders in the immediate vicinity, a frenzied chase ensued. The sight of Siraj sprinting towards the boundary, trying to prevent the ball from reaching the ropes, tickled the funny bone of the Indian contingent.

Leading the laughter brigade Kohli, whose uninhibited chuckles were for everyone to see. Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya, too, couldn't contain their amusement, while commentators Wasim Akram and Ravi Shastri added their own jovial remarks.

The over, however, wasn't over for Siraj. He came back to claim the wicket of de Silva, etching his name in the record books as the first Indian to grab four wickets in a single ODI over.

Meanwhile, led by Siraj’s breathtaking spell, Sri Lanka were bowled out for a measly 50. Besides Siraj’s six-wicket haul, Hardik picked three wickets while Jasprit Bumrah grabbed a solitary scalp.
