Kolkata Knight Riders' hard-hitting opener Phil Salt departed cheaply on Friday (May 3) in their IPL 2024 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium. The Englishman could only muster five off three balls before falling to Nuwan Thushara in the very first over of the contest.

After MI won the toss and asked KKR to bat first, Hardik Pandya gave Nuwan Thushara the new ball to kick off the proceedings. Even though the Sri Lankan conceded 14 runs off the opening over, he got the dangerous wicket of Salt, who had been in impressive form.

It all happened when Salt came down the track to play a lofted drive off Thushara. However, all he could get was a huge top edge, but he could have been saved had Tilak Varma was not aware of the bizarre situation while taking the catch.

While Tilak was running from the point region, Naman Dhir, who came in place of Mohammad Nabi, was looking at the ball while running from the boundary line. They collided, yet Tilak kept the composure to complete the catch before having a laugh with his teammate.

At the time of writing this, KKR are in tatters, slipping to 47/4 after 4.5 overs, with Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer in the middle.
