[Watch] Standing Umpire Gives Out Despite TV Umpire's Not Out Call In AUS-SA Women's ODI

A bizarre little incident took place during the second Australia versus South Africa women's One-Day International at the North Sydney Oval on Wednesday (February 7).

Standing umpire Claire Polosak initially raised her finger for South African batter Sune Luus despite the third umpire recognising the LBW referral from Australia for its incorrect nature and giving a 'not out' decision.

The incident happened in the 24th over of the South African first-innings batting effort when Luus went for an attempted sweep against the off-spinner Ashleigh Gardner but missed the delivery completely while it brushed the outer splice of the front pad.

Polosak judged the point of impact and gave Luus not out in the middle but the Australians weren't convinced and asked for a review. The TV umpire then upheld the on-field call after assessing that the impact was indeed outside off stump.

Standing Umpire's Funny Brainfade Moment

Even as the third umpire asked her on-field partner to stay with her original decision, Polosak funnily forgot what her initial call was and raised her finger again, only to realise seconds later and resurrect to the not-out decision.

The incident took the Australian players by surprise before they all laughed at Polosak, who had little qualms accepting her mistake and indulged in a sheepish grin herself after committing the error for the Luus LBW referral.

Australia soon had their scalp when Gardener got Luus out caught off 19 for 33 deliveries. It was a blow to the visitors in their quest to put the pressure on the dominant hosts, who were eyeing a 2-0 unassailable lead in the three-match series.

Australia had earlier won the T20I leg of the all-format home challenge 2-1 and will also be contesting a standalone Test of the summer against the rainbow nation at the historic WACA in Perth from February 15.
