'Fantastic With His Unique Release Points And Swing': McCullum Lauds Jasprit Bumrah

Brendon McCullum had no qualms accepting ace Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been a near-unplayable threat for his bandwagon of aggressive England batters in the first two Tests of the series in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.

After bagging a match haul of six wickets for 69 runs on a turning pitch in Hyderabad, Bumrah proved to be a thorn in England's flesh again in Vizag, with his innings figures of 6 for 45 and 3/46 helping India clinch the Test match by 106 runs to level the series 1-1.

Heading into the final three Tests, McCullum recognised Bumrah as perhaps his team's single biggest threat in the opposition attack and lauded the pacer for his "unique release points" with an unorthodox action and the ability to generate new and old ball swing against attacking English players.

"Dunnu (Don't know)," McCullum joked as per ESPNcricinfo when initially asked how England can probably tackle Bumrah in Rajkot, the venue for the third Test starting February 15. The coach then explained the importance of England not indulging in theories to rain on the Bumrah parade and expressed confidence on them to find a way out eventually.

Here's what he said:

"For now, we have to tip our cap to Jasprit and say that spell (in the first innings of the second Test) was as good as anything we have seen so far on this trip."

"It is all condition-dependent. When the ball is swinging like that he becomes even more of a threat. He is a fantastic bowler in all forms of the game. He is unique with his release points and with how much swing he can generate in the air."

"No doubt he is very good, but we have come up against very good bowlers all through the last 18 months or so and found ways to counter them and that is what we have got to do in this one."

Bumrah has been India's best bowler and the stand-out performer from either side in the Test series so far. As per reports, however, the right-arm pacer might be rested by the Indian team for the third Test in Rajkot to manage his workload ahead of the last two games in Ranchi and Dharamshala.
