After showcasing his batting prowess earlier in the game, Joe Root exhibited his fielding brilliance, helping England get the prized scalp of Sarfaraz Khan on day 2 of the ongoing Ranchi Test. Root's valiant diving effort in the slips not only handed Tom Hartley a wicket but also pushed India down on the mat. 

After India lost ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the 37th over, Sarfaraz and Jaiswal added 31 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter was castled by Shoaib Bashir. 

Soon after the Mumbai batter got out, Sarfaraz followed his footsteps, being dismissed by Tom Hartley. 

Hartley bowled a nice good length delivery, which turned sharply from the off stump line. As Sarfaraz went to defend it, the ball took the outside edge of his bat and flew towards the slip cordon. 

Joe Root, stationed at the first slip, dived towards his right and completed a spectacular low catch. His astounding effort, which signified his incredible fitness standards, earned the English side a priceless breakthrough. 

Sarfaraz was followed by Ravichandran Ashwin, who became Hartley's second victim a few overs later. As of writing, India were reeling at 182 for seven, with Dhruv Jurel batting alongside Kuldeep Yadav.
