Islamabad United wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan looked in fine touch against Babar Azam's Peshawar Zalmi in the 13th match of the ongoing season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2024) as he smashed one flat six and one four in Luke Wood's over.

Having amassed only 14 runs in three innings at an average of seven, Azam was under pressure coming into this fixture.

The chase was on for Islamabad when they lost early wickets, and Azam came into bat at number five. The dynamic batter started taking on the Zalmi bowlers. He looked particularly severe against the left-arm pacer Luke Wood.

He took on the England-based player in the 13th over. Having given just four runs in the first four balls of the over, Wood found Azam on strike, who smashed two consecutive boundaries off the final two balls to make it a big over with 14 runs coming off that over.

On the fifth delivery, Azam confidently anticipated a back-of-the-hand slower delivery from Wood, meeting it with a powerful flat-bat shot over the bowler's head for a maximum. His next stroke, albeit fortuitous, saw him edge the ball past the off stump, racing to the fine leg boundary for a four.

Azam's exhilarating innings captivated spectators as he unleashed a barrage of six fours and six sixes.

The runs off his bay came at an impressive strike rate of 250. Supported by Colin Munro's solid partnership, Islamabad United appeared on course for victory. However, a mistimed shot by Azam in the 18th over sparked a downturn for the team in red and blue. Despite their efforts, Peshawar Zalmi emerged victorious by eight runs.

Islamabad seemed on the brink of victory at one point, thanks to an impressive fourth-wicket partnership between Azam and Munro. However, Arif Yaqoob's four-wicket 19th over tilted the momentum back in Peshawar's favour. Yaqoob finished with figures of 5/27, marking the first five-wicket haul of PSL 9.

This also represented a historic moment in PSL history, as it was the first instance of a bowler claiming four wickets in a single over. Despite this, Peshawar had set a formidable target of 201, propelled by skipper Babar's century. Ultimately, these runs proved sufficient as Zalmi emerged victorious in the high-scoring contest.
