Pakistan’s young wicket-keeper batter Azam Khan has put an end to the debate on who the best finisher in white-ball cricket is by naming India’s MS Dhoni over AB de Villiers, Andre Russell, Glenn Maxwell, and others.

Dhoni's reputation as one of the greatest finishers in cricket history is well-established. His ability to take the game deep while chasing and clinching victories has earned him widespread acclaim. The dynamic and composed batter has steered India to victory on numerous occasions, solidifying his status as the premier finisher of his era.

Despite facing stiff competition from the likes of ABD, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, and Glenn Maxwell, who have also showcased their match-winning prowess, Dhoni stands out as a cut above the rest.

Azam Khan, renowned for his explosive batting and finishing skills in domestic cricket and various T20 leagues, was tasked with selecting the greatest finisher in the game. In the CricWick segment of ‘Pick the Best,’ Azam deliberated over several top players but ultimately narrowed it down to Dhoni and De Villiers before choosing MSD over ABD.

“This is a tough one (on choosing between Dhoni and ABD). But as a finisher I would choose Dhoni. 100 percent,” said Azam Khan while speaking to CricWick.

The 25-year-old dasher has represented Pakistan in just eight T20Is since his debut in 2021. However, his performance has been underwhelming, averaging a mere 4.83 with a strike rate slightly above 90. Son of Moin Khan, Azam has drawn criticism for his lackluster displays during the New Zealand tour and his remarks questioning the team management's strategy.

Currently plying his trade for Islamabad United in PSL 2024, Azam is yet to find his rhythm with the bat. So far, the right-handed batter has managed only 14 runs in three innings, averaging seven with a strike rate of 100.

As far MSD is concerned, his last appearance was in IPL 2023, where he led the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fifth title, matching the record held by Mumbai Indians (MI). He is set to return to action in the CSK jersey for IPL, commencing with the clash between CSK and RCB on March 22.
