Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw started with four boundaries off the first four deliveries of his innings before he was toppled by SRH spinner Washington Sundar in match number 35 of the IPL 2024 season.

Washington Sundar strikes early to remove Shaw

Prithvi Shaw turned up for his side at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 20 against an all-firing SRH unit in match number 35 of the IPL 2024 season.

After the ‘Orange Army’ blazed its way to a monumental 266-run total upfront, Shaw took up the early run-chase onus upon himself by smacking opening spinner Washington Sundar with four consecutive fours.

After clattering Sundar’s length delivery through the covers for a boundary first up; Shaw trashed, cut and swept his way to three more boundaries off the next three balls to race to a sizzling four-ball 16* in just 0.4 overs of the Delhi Capitals innings.

Unfortunately for the brash young opener, the cricketer was deceived by Washington Sundar’s tossed up delivery in the fifth ball of the over, as he was holed out by Abdul Samad at cover.

Regardless of Delhi Capitals’ early setback, Prithvi Shaw’s armed resistance seemed to have emboldened the rest of his top-order teammates, considering the hosts raced to 88-2 by the end of the opening powerplay.

Earlier in the match, the visiting SRH squadron charted another 250-plus total this IPL 2024 season, this time forming a staggering 266-7 from their 20 overs.

Opener Travis Head bashed 89 runs from just 32 deliveries while young partner Abishek Sharma listed a 12-ball 46 at the top. The two openers shared a record powerplay start (125-0), before Shahbaz Ahmed (29-ball 59*) kept the momentum going until the conclusion of the innings.
