Mitchell Marsh put forward a complete all-round show for Delhi Capitals in their home clash against the SRH. The Australian star snared four wickets with the ball before listing a fighting fifty for his side, thus becoming only the fifth cricketer in IPL history to complete the all-round double in an IPL game.

However, the Capitals still ended up on a losing note, with his dismissal triggering a semi batting collapse in the crucial juncture of their high pursuit run-chase.

Mitchell Marsh says team chased 20 runs too many

Delhi Capitals faltered in their 198-run target against the visiting SRH side, despite featuring a 112-run second wicket stand between Marsh and Phil Salt. The two cricketers charted sparkling half-centuries, before the hosts slumped from 112-1 to 148-6 in a space of six overs.

Marsh, batting at number three, blasted 63 runs from just 39 balls, with a boundary and six sixes to his name. Earlier in the contest, he single-handedly wrecked the SRH middle-order with four wickets, including the prized scalps of Aiden Markram, Harry Brook and Rahul Tripathi.

After the match, the veteran Australian all-rounder expressed his disappointment over the loss, and claimed that he felt his side were chasing too big of a target in the game.

“Took me a few games to get going, but a disappointing loss. Had that nice partnership with Salt but not enough to get over the line. The wicket did slow down a bit, but I think it was a case of us chasing 20 too many either way,”

Marsh also took positives from the defeat, adding there is still a long way to go in the tournament. He stated that it is time for the Capitals to start winning some games, considering that they are currently on the bottom of the IPL 2023 points table.

“Certainly lots of positives from today, we've lost a few close ones. We've been on the wrong end of a few but we do feel there is a long way to go in this tournament. Time to start winning a few.”

The senior all-rounder will now turn up for the Capitals in their subsequent fixture, i.e., an away game against Gujarat Titans on May 2.
