Shardul Thakur reminded the selectors he is around with a terrific spell upon his return to Ranji Trophy duties for Mumbai, bagging a spectacular six-wicket haul in the final round league stage fixture for the season against Assam.

Dropped from India's Test squad since the tour of South Africa in December-January, the medium fast-bowler reinforced his class with a devastating burst at one end versus Assam on Day 1 of the four-day encounter played at the BKC ground in Mumbai.

Using the early morning moisture to pretty good effect, Thakur swung the red ball prodigiously and ran through the Assamese batting line-up, taking his six-fer for just 21 runs while dismissing the opposition for a disastrous 84 after Mumbai won a crucial toss.

Thakur Bags 6 For 21 Upon Ranji Return

Playing only his second game of the Ranji season, Thakur made a huge impact on Mumbai's fortunes in their quest to bag a decisive win over Assam in Elite Group B. His incisive burst proved too good for the top and middle-order as the understated cricketer triggered the Assam downfall well below the three-figure mark for the innings.

It took the experienced bowler only 10.1 overs to fetch his 6 wickets for 21 runs, and Mumbai only 32.1 overs to skittle out the opposition. Ajinkya Rahane's men took a giant leap towards a major win to consolidate their top spot in Group B ahead of the Ranji Trophy knock-outs.

For Thakur, it would've been immensely satisfying to not just contribute to Mumbai's cause but to leave a stunning reminder of his prowess for the selectors to notice.

Dropped from India's playing XI after a lacklustre outing in Centurion, the 32-year-old was not retained in the squad for the home Test series against England.
