'Respect Everyone But I Want To Be Jaiswal'- Yashasvi On Ganguly, Sehwag Comparisons

A magnificent start to Yashasvi Jaiswal's Test career for India may have inspired comparisons with former India stalwarts Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag, but the young left-hander says he believes in walking in his shoes and wants to be the best version of himself.

After missing out on a second Test century in the first Test against England in Hyderabad, Jaiswal produced a marathon double ton in Visakhapatnam and helped laid the foundation for India's comeback win in the five-Test series.

With a debut ton under his belt against the West Indies last year, the earnest young Mumbaikar averages 57.90 after his first six Tests for India.

His aggressive approach against anything loose has sparked comparisons with the swashbuckling Sehwag, while the finesse and strong off-side play have given suggestions of him being Ganguly 2.0.

Jaiswal, however, isn't too fussed over comparisons and, while respectful of the greats he is being likened to, says he wants to be the best 'Yashasvi Jaiswal' that can be for Team India.

"I respect everyone, but I want to be a Yashasvi Jaiswal, always wanted to be a Yashasvi Jaiswal," Jaiswal told JioCinema in an interview

Jaiswal also opened up on his opening partnership with Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and said it's been a great experience to start the innings with the veteran batter and spend time soaking in great learnings with the experienced head.

"It’s an honour and pleasure to play with him. Walking out with him to the middle, sharing experiences, and enjoying the tough times with him has been nice. There’s a lot I am learning from him."

"It’s really comfortable going up to him and asking a question. Even if the question is bad, he still gives good advice. Sometimes when you have a lot of questions in your mind, going up to him and getting his advice is really nice," he added.

Jaiswal missed out with the bat in the first innings of the third Test in Rajkot and will be hoping to make quick amends when he walks out to bat for the critical second innings with the series levelled 1-1.
