Mohammed Siraj delivered the decisive blow for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Match 58 of IPL 2024 by dismissing Ashutosh Sharma of Punjab Kings.

The Ashutosh Sharma wicket, occurring on the final ball of the 15th over, marked the beginning of the end for Punjab Kings.

Mohammed Siraj avenges six as Ashutosh Sharma faces bitter LBW exit

Ashutosh, who had previously pulled Mohammed Siraj for a colossal six over fine leg just a couple of balls earlier, couldn't replicate his heroics when Siraj returned with a vengeance.

Bowling with pace and precision, Siraj pitched a full-length delivery that struck Ashutosh right on the pads, trapping him plumb in front of the wicket. Umpire Nitin Menon immediately raised his finger.

Not willing to go down without a fight, Ashutosh opted to review the decision, putting the DRS system to work. However, the replays clearly showed the ball clipping the leg stump, and with the Umpire’s Call in play, the decision stood. Ashutosh Sharma was sent packing for 8 off 5 balls, failing to live up to his earlier exploits this season.

This breakthrough from Siraj was like the straw that broke the camel’s back for Punjab Kings, as their captain, Sam Curran, fell shortly after to Lockie Ferguson. Ferguson’s dismissal of Curran extinguished any lingering hopes of a Punjab comeback.

At the time of writing, Punjab Kings are tottering at 170/8 after 15.3 overs, needing an improbable 72 runs off just 27 balls. With all recognized batters back in the pavillion, Punjab Kings' loss now seems a foregone conclusion, which would seal their fate and eliminate them from IPL 2024
