In a remarkable achievement, former Indian captain Virat Kohli has overtaken legendary ex-cricketer Sachin Tendulkar to attain a phenomenal landmark. During India's ongoing World Cup clash against Australia, Kohli surpassed Tendulkar to become India's most successful batter in ICC white-ball events across formats.

Notably, Tendulkar, who represented India in six World Cup editions between 1992 and 2011, scored 2719 runs at a superb average of 52.28 and a strike rate of 87.14.

On the other hand, Kohli, who has featured in five T20 World Cups and four ODI World Cups, including the ongoing one, has amassed more runs than the master blaster at a formidable average and strike rate.

Most runs for India in ICC white-ball events

  • Virat Kohli: 2731* runs in 64 innings
  • Sachin Tendulkar: 2719 runs in 58 innings
  • Rohit Sharma: 2422 runs in 64 innings
  • Yuvraj Singh: 1707 runs in 62 innings
  • Sourav Ganguly: 1671 runs in 32 innings

Regarding the game, India restricted Australia to a paltry 199-run total, courtesy of spectacular bowling performances from Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. However, Australia made a remarkable comeback in the game, as Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc rattled the Indian top-order, removing Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer in quick succession.

However, the experienced duo of Kohli and KL Rahul has stabilised things for India, powering them to 69 for three in 18 overs as of writing.
