Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a comprehensive defeat against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) last evening in Jaipur, where they could not chase down 203 runs. Only Shivam Dube and Ruturaj Gaikwad stood out, making 52 and 47, respectively, in CSK's 32-run loss, pushing them down to third position in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 points table from No.1.

Head coach Stephen Fleming after the match defended the batting order, which so far in the IPL has been performing wonderfully well. During the post-match conference, Fleming explained that CSK does not believe in changing things that are going well.

Here's what Fleming said

“The set roles are very important. [Ajinkya] Rahane has been great for us at No. 3. We don’t mess with things that are going well. It was just today we came up against a team that took the pace off the ball. We couldn’t get any real momentum in the first six overs. Devon Conway, who is in outstanding form, couldn’t get underway. The rhythm of the innings was slow. When we tried to catch the game up, we made mistakes.”

The former New Zealand captain praised Rajasthan as well, and especially Yashasvi Jaiswal, who slammed a 43-ball 77 up front, getting the home side a rollicking start.

"This pitch was a lot different in appearance than the last one. It played well. It was starting to get a bit slower towards the end, but Rajasthan played a great home game. They came out of the blocks really well. Jaiswal played a great innings to create some momentum,"

With this win, Royals move to the top of the IPL 2023 points table, while CSK will return to Chennai to face Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday to regain their lost spot.
