The highly-anticipated 17th season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 got underway in Chennai, with an enthralling performance by Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff.

The ceremony is acting as a curtain-raiser to the opening IPL 2024 contest between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).  Kumar, known for his death-defying stunts, made a dashing entry on the podium, with the Indian national flag held in his hand.

The 56-year-old star came flying down the rafters and landed safely on the stage, where fellow Bollywood actor Shroff greeted the former Delhi Daredevils (DD) brand ambassador.

This is not the first time that 'Khiladi' Kumar has done such a high-flying stunt, during the first match of Daredevils in 2008, the actor performed a similar act coming from from the stands and onto the field. 

Both Kumar and Shroff then further proceeded to perform on their respective hit songs, ending their act while riding a bike around the boundary-line, as Shroff held the Indian flag up high. Others slated to perform during the opening ceremony are composer AR Rehman, and acclaimed singers Sonu Nigam, Neeti Mohan and Mohit Chauhan. 

Interestingly, Shroff also performed during the opening ceremony of Women's Premier League (WPL)2024, along with other Bollywood actors, which included Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Shah Rukh Khan. 

The ceremony will be followed by the toss, which will see newly-appointed captain Ruturaj Gaikwad leading the post-Dhoni era for the first-time.
