Late-minute pullouts are difficult to predict, and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise had to deal with Australian spinner Adam Zampa's withdrawalfrom the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on eve of the season.

Royals' have replaced the wily spinner with Mumbai's Tanush Kotian for the upcoming season, who has a base price of INR 20 lakhs. Zampa pulled out of IPL citing workload management, given that the T20 World Cup is just months away, having been retained by Royals for INR 1.5 crore.

Kotian is being rewarded for his show in Ranji Trophy 2024, where the all-rounder claimed 502 runs, and picked up 29 wickets as Mumbai won their 42nd domestic red-ball title

The youngster's all-round show ended with the Mumbai-born winning Ranji Trophy 2024 'Player Of The Tournament' award as well. The 25-year-old has played 26 First-Class (FC) matches, 19 List-A and 23 T20 games, picking up 75, 20 and 24 wickets, respectively. With the bat, Kotian has amassed 1,304 across formats, having made his FC debut in 2018.

Kotian, who bowls off-spin will gain immense value from being around the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, who are Rajasthan's leading spinners in the competition.

Overall, Zampa featured in 20 IPL matches, which include six for Royals, where the leg-spinner claimed eight wickets out of his 29 scalps.

Meanwhile, Royals captained by Sanju Samson will play their first IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 in Jaipur.
