Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been under fire for quite some time now. The veteran is going through the worst phase of his cricket year, averaging a meagre 25.05 this year in 19 outings across formats.

As Kohli has been struggling with his form, a handful of cricket analysts have lashed out at the selectors for giving him a long rope.

Chahal comes in defense of Virat Kohli

While almost every cricketer goes through a lean patch, Kohli's situation is worse because he hasn't scored a hundred for nearly three years.

Amidst all the criticism, the batting maestro has received some solid backing from his teammate Yuzvendra Chahal. The spinner shares a close camaraderie with Kohli. Apart from playing for India together, Chahal also spent eight years at Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise under the 33-year-old's leadership.

The star spinner believes that the people in the cricket fraternity are giving too much importance to Kohli's inability to score a hundred in the past three years. Chahal also counted the batter's glorious international numbers to remind the fans of his impact on the Indian team.

“The problem is we just think about his 100s, we don't talk about those valuable contributions of 60-70 because of the standards he has set. If he is there at the crease and has 15-20 runs behind him, I am telling you no bowler wants to bowl to him."

Furthermore, Chahal elaborated on the similarities in his role under the leadership of Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The leg-spinner mentioned that both the captains have given him the liberty to bowl as per his convenience.
