Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar and ex-Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag engaged in a hilarious banter during their meetup in Dubai. Both cricketing legends are currently in the UAE as part of commentary duties for the ongoing ILT20 2024 season.

Akhtar shared a short video of his brief interaction with Sehwag, where the two can be seen jokingly discussing about the speedster’s long run-up.

Virender Sehwag says Akhtar’s run-up a distraction

Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar consistently clocked over 150 kph during his playing days. Apart from hurling down thunderous speeds, the cricketer also bowled with an unusually longer run-up.

One of Akhtar’s prominent rivals from the yesteryears, legendary Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag jokingly claimed that the speedster’s longer run-up was a huge distraction to him.

Akhtar shared a 17-second clip of their interaction on X (formerly Twitter), where the caption reads: “Hamaray pyaray Viru bhai @virendersehwag yeh batatay huay k mera lamba run up ko kitna intezar kerwata tha. And he feels it was a big distraction.” (Our dear Virender Sehwag explaining how my longer run-up kept him waiting. And he feels it was a big distraction).

During their conversation, Sehwag admitted that he used to have a lot of thoughts in his mind whenever he batted against Akhtar. He also joked that the speedster’s run-up alone took up 10-15 seconds every time.

"I had 10-15 seconds when Akhtar was in his run-up. I used to put my head down because bad thoughts would enter my mind if I had watched him in his run-up. I would have thought, 'He will hit me, bowl a yorker or a beamer," Sehwag was heard saying in Akhtar's recorded video.

Both Akhtar and Sehwag came across each other a number of times during their international careers. One of their most prominent altercation remains from the time when Team India toured Pakistan in early 2004.

Sehwag scored 309 in the first Test match at Multan, and was adjudged as ‘Player of the Series’ after India’s historic win.
