In a highly unique manner, tournament debutant Uganda announced its squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA, beginning in June, on Monday. The squad reveal went beyond the boundaries of sports, offering a glimpse into the everyday life in Uganda.

Leading the squad of 15 players is Brian Masaba. Notably, the squad includes 43-year-old Frank Nsubuga, an off-spinning all-rounder who is all set to be the oldest player in the tournament.

Also catching attention in the Uganda squad is spin bowling all-rounder Alpesh Ramjani. At 29 years old, Ramjani gained recognition after his nomination for the 2023 ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.

With 39 T20I appearances, he has impressively claimed 70 wickets and scored 569 runs, including two half-centuries. He was the highest wicket-taker in men's T20Is last year.

Riazat Ali Shah has been appointed as the vice-captain, while Ronald Lutaaya and Innocent Mwebaze will serve as the two travelling reserve players.

Beyond just the squad announcement, what's truly capturing attention on social media is the distinctive method employed to unveil the team.

Back in November of last year, Uganda's qualification for the 2024 T20 World Cup came as a surprise, stunning both Zimbabwe and Kenya along the way.

This marks only the second time Uganda has secured a spot in a senior world championship in any sport, with netball being the first.

Uganda finds itself placed in Group C alongside Afghanistan, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and West Indies.

The team will kick start their T20 World Cup journey on June 3, squaring off against Afghanistan in Guyana.
