Rishabh Pant is all set to don the Delhi Capitals jersey once again in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after a hiatus stretching over a year due to a severe car accident in December 2022. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) handed Pant the green light for his comeback on Tuesday, paving the way for his return to the cricket field after a rigorous 14-month rehabilitation and recovery period.


Pant reflects on journey back to IPL 2024 with Delhi Capitals

The dynamic wicketkeeper-batter expressed a mix of exhilaration and anxiety as he joined the Delhi Capitals' pre-season camp on March 13. Rishabh Pant likened his return to the feeling of a debutant, stepping onto the field for the first time as he highlighted the emotional and physical journey he has undergone to make his way back to professional cricket.

“I’m excited and nervous at the same time. It feels like I’m going to make my debut again,” said Pant.

He further acknowledged the miracle of his return, expressing heartfelt gratitude towards his supporters, the BCCI, and the staff at the National Cricket Academy for their constant support and encouragement through his recovery.

“To be able to play cricket again after everything I’ve been through is nothing short of a miracle. I’m grateful to all my well-wishers and fans, and most importantly, the BCCI and staff at NCA. All their love and support continues to give me immense strength,” added the southpaw.

Pant's anticipation to rejoin the Delhi Capitals squad and participate in the IPL, a tournament close to his heart, was evident. He extended his sincere thanks to the team management and support staff for standing by him through thick and thin.

“I’m excited to return to Delhi Capitals & the IPL – a tournament I enjoy so much. Our team owners and support staff have been by my side throughout with their full support, guidance and co-operation at every step, for which I am deeply grateful. I can’t wait to re-unite with my DC family and play in front of the fans again,” concluded Pant.

Delhi Capitals will kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Punjab Kings in Mohali on March 23. Pant's return is not just a personal victory but a massive boost for Delhi Capitals, signalling a fresh start for both Pant and the team as they aim for glory in the upcoming season.
