Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant has revealed that he wanted to be completely fit before the five-match Test series against England at home, which India won 4-1.

He also extended gratitude to the BCCI and the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for their significant roles in his rehabilitation process.

Acknowledging the BCCI's clearance for him for the IPL 2024, Pant reflected on the challenging aftermath of a severe car accident in December 2022.

The accident necessitated multiple surgeries, causing him to miss out on the World Test championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup held on home soil the following year.

In an interview with the Times of India, Pant disclosed undergoing two unsuccessful attempts before ultimately being deemed fit for IPL 2024.

"I was anxious waiting to be declared fit. I was trying to get fit before the Test series against England. BCCI and NCA were very helpful. BCCI secretary Jay Shah took a personal interest. They didn't want to rush me to the longest format. They slowly built up the workload. That was the best part of the recovery. You have to appreciate it if someone takes care of you like that. They suggested that I start with T20s and then increase the workload," Rishabh Pant told the Times of India.

Reflecting on his remarkable turnaround after a hiatus of around 14 months, Pant's return to the field has sparked optimism, with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah hoping that he will be able to take part in the upcoming T20 World Cup for India, contingent upon his performance in the IPL.

The Pant-led Delhi Capitals are set to kick off their campaign against Punjab Kings on March 23 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali.
