Australia have been handed a major blow ahead of their must-win T20 World Cup 2022 game against Sri Lanka later today.

The hosts were beaten by New Zealand in their World Cup opener and they are under massive pressure to win the game against the Lankan Lions.

According to Fox Sports, star bowler Adam Zampa is now an extreme doubt for the game after testing positive for COVID-19.

Zampa is undoubtedly Australia's prime spin weapon and his absence will be a blow for the hosts. The spinner has been in good form recently. It remains to be seen how Aaron Finch and his men cope with the loss.

Australia need to win the game against Sri Lanka at all costs if they want to keep their hopes of making it to the semi-finals alive.

According to reports, Zampa would travel separately if he is picked in the squad for the game. His contact with the rest of the squad and the support staff is set to be limited.

As per the latest ICC regulations, players who test positive for COVID-19 will be allowed to play the game. Recently, George Dockrell also played for Ireland with COVID-19. The fans will be hoping that Zampa's condition is not as serious as feared and he can feature for his country on Tuesday.
