To the delight of cricket fans, young Indian opener Shubman Gill has resumed his practice sessions in the nets as he prepares for the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash in the ICC World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad on October 14.

On Thursday, a photo from the Ahmedabad nets showed Gill back in action despite recently recovering from illness. Gill also engaged in fielding drills, marking his return to the ground for the first time since overcoming dengue.

During this practice session, he was accompanied by physio Kamlesh and India's throwdown specialist Nuwan, facing local net bowlers in the nets.

An official from the local Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) mentioned that Gill arrived at around 11 a.m. and spent nearly an hour batting at the stadium. It wasn't a casual hit at the nets; Gill faced the bowlers properly with intent.

A GCA official reported,

"Shubman Gill was here in the morning, and he batted for around an hour. Not many people were around when he was batting, and he left the premises as soon as he was done."

While the Indian team travelled to Delhi to face Afghanistan, Gill remained in Chennai, where India commenced their World Cup campaign. His low platelet count led to a doctor's advice not to travel to Delhi in his condition. Under the team's supervision, he spent one night at the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai to ensure he received proper medical care.

With Gill's proactive approach and quick return to Ahmedabad, hopes are reignited for his potential ODI World Cup debut in the upcoming India-Pakistan clash on October 14.

Having missed India's first two matches, Gill is eager to make a strong comeback. The Indian team management will be cautious in integrating him back into the XI.

India's highly-anticipated match against Pakistan, scheduled as the 12th game of the 50-over tournament, will be a focal point as they aim to maintain their undefeated record against their arch-rivals. India currently leads Pakistan 7-0 in ODI World Cup history.
