Sanjay Manjrekar 'Slams' Team Management For Exclusion of Shami Over Shardul Thakur

Former India International and cricket expert Sanjay Manjrekar showed his displeasure regarding selection issue in India's match against Pakistan on Saturday. India fielded the playing XI without Mohammad Shami, in pacers they went with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur.

Spectators watching the game were taken aback with this choice of playing XI specially to see someone like Shami to miss the bus.

Manjrekar expressed his disagreement with this school of thought. He criticized the team citing to leave premier pacer Shami over Shardul Thakur. Manjrekar believes, Shami is far threatening than his fellow Mumbaikar Shardul, especially, with the conditions favoring seam movement, Shami could have been lethal.

“I am against this thought. People talk about batting depth but what about bowling depth?" Manjrekar said while talking to Star Sports.

“Isn’t Mohammed Shami more a threat to Pakistan batters than Shardul Thakur? I wouldn’t worry about batting depth but leaving someone put like a Shami, especially on a surface where you see the ball seam around, India should have gone with three quality seamers. It just shows signs of insecurity and not trusting you batters in (Ravindra) Jadeja at No.7,” Manjrekar added.

Amidst this ongoing selection debacle, India will face Nepal on Monday to secure their next stage berth. They will be hoping to have a full game as the rain predictions are there for match.
