It was a high-scoring encounter at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, with a total of 549 runs being scored. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) set a formidable target of 287/3 in their allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

In this run-filled match where bowlers struggled, the Bengaluru-based team fought well in front of their home fans, accumulating 262 runs while losing 7 wickets in their pursuit of the target. 

However, they fell short of the target by 25 runs despite half-centuries from skipper Faf du Plessis and veteran Dinesh Karthik, who slammed a majestic 83 off just 35 balls. 

It is pertinent to note that among the 13,000 T20 matches played thus far, RCB's 262 remains the highest total achieved by a team in a run chase.

Numerous records were shattered in this match, including the record for the highest match aggregate in a T20 game. A staggering total of 549 runs were scored, surpassing the previous record of 517 runs. 

This milestone was achieved during a clash between South Africa and West Indies at Centurion on March 26, 2023. West Indies posted an imposing total of 258/5 in their 20 overs, which South Africa chased down successfully in 18.5 overs, reaching 259/4 to secure victory by 6 wickets with 7 balls to spare.

Once again, IPL 2024 witnessed the surpassing of the highest individual team aggregate, as SRH posted 287/3, breaking their previous record. 

Earlier in the season, SRH had scored 277/3 in 20 overs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
