The home base of the Royal Challengers Bangalore - Bengaluru is experiencing a severe water crisis, but the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) remains optimistic that the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium won't encounter any water-related challenges during the IPL 2024 matches.

The complete IPL schedule has yet to be disclosed, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awaits the announcement of polling dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Once the election dates are confirmed, the full schedule will be unveiled. However, based on the partial list, in the first phase- Bengaluru is slated to host three IPL matches.

The first match in the Garden City will be played on March 25 when RCB takes on the Punjab Kings (PBKS) followed by the second match on March 9 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The third match will be played on April 2 against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Concerns have been raised by residents regarding the IPL matches scheduled at Chinnaswamy Stadium amidst the city's water scarcity. In response to these concerns, the CEO of KSCA Shubendu Ghosh reassured that the state body is currently not facing any crisis.

"We are facing no crisis – at the moment that is. We have received the state government pertaining to water usage and we are in constant meetings about following the guidelines,”  Shubendu Ghosh told PTI.

Despite the water crisis in the city, KSCA is well-prepared. The association has a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in place for watering the pitch and outfield, eliminating the need for groundwater usage. This enables KSCA to adhere to Karnataka government guidelines on water usage for IPL 2024 matches.

"We are already using water from the STP plant for watering the outfield and pitch and other in-stadium purposes. We may require 10,000-15,000 litres of water for match purposes, and we are certain that it can be generated from the STP plant. There will be no need to use groundwater (for any watering purpose). Yes, we are having a closer look at the government’s new policy on water usage, but we are confident of meeting all the points in the order,”  Shubendu added.

The 2024 IPL season is scheduled to kick off on March 22 with a high-octane match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
