LSG Approached Shoriful Islam For IPL 2024, Star Pacer Denied Due To 'This' Reason

In a surprising development, Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam was reportedly in talks with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a potential contract for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. However, these discussions fell through as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) declined to issue him a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

While the BCB was initially open to providing an NOC for the window between the Sri Lanka series and the Zimbabwe series, the Lucknow-based franchise sought Shoriful's availability for the rest of the ongoing season.

However, the BCB was unwilling to grant an NOC for a period longer than one month, resulting in Shoriful missing out on the IPL this year.

This situation mirrors a previous instance involving Taskin Ahmed, who was also approached by LSG for the 2022 IPL season but was unable to participate due to national team commitments.

Before the IPL, Bangladesh hosted a series against Sri Lanka, and they are scheduled to play against Zimbabwe in the month of May.

During this interim period, Shoriful had a month available to play in the IPL, similar to Mustafizur Rahman. However, due to the late request made by LSG, BCB cannot allow Shoriful to take part in the remainder of the IPL.

LSG currently relies on Naveen-ul-Haq and Shamar Joseph as their sole overseas pace bowling options. In order to add variety to their bowling attack, particularly with a left-arm angle, they pursued Shoriful.

Meanwhile, BCB declined to grant pacer Mustafizur permission to participate in the remainder of the IPL, citing concerns about his workload and fatigue, as well as the national team's need for his services in the Zimbabwe series.

In response to a request from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mustafizur himself, the board agreed to extend his NOC by one day. This extension allows him to play one additional match for Chennai before returning to the country on 2 May.
