The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced India's 15-man squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 which begins on August 27.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team will welcome the services of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul into the squad.

While Kohli asked for rest in the aftermath of his poor form, Rahul contracted Covid-19 at NCA while he underwent a recovery after a sports hernia operation.

India's spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will miss the entirety of the multi-nation tournament due to injury. While Harshal Patel also missed out due to a rib injury.

"Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were not available for selection owing to injuries. They are currently undergoing rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru. Three players - Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Deepak Chahar have been named as standbys," stated the BCCI in an official release.

Many big names miss out from the squad

Unfortunately, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and Sanju Samson have been left out alongside Axar Patel. Although, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Deepak Chahar will travel with the team as standby players.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the pace attack in Bumrah's absence, with the company of young Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan.

Ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been included in the squad alongside regular names Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi. Deepak Hooda has also made the cut.
