Before the commencement of the World Cup 2023, there were discussions about the batting of the Afghanistan team as they were not consistent with their batting. Now, they have won four out of seven games of the World Cup with fantastic batting performances.

Ibrahim Zadran, the stylish Afghan opener has been magnificent in the last few months and now he has become the highest run scorer from Afghanistan in a calendar year. He is cruising his way to scripting history as he has scored a century against the Australian team in the ongoing clash.

In 2018, 2019, and 2022, Rahmat Shah was the top scorer for the Afghanistan team. Now with a classic ton from Ibrahim, he has already scored 839 runs in just 19 innings this year. Despite playing his first game against Australia, the young Ibrahim was on top against the likes of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.

With this knock, he has also registered the highest individual score for Afghanistan in the history of the ODI World Cup and also became one of the youngest players to register an ODI hundred against the Australian team.

Most ODI runs for Afghanistan in a calendar year

  • Ibrahim Zadran - 839 runs (2023)*
  • Rahmat Shah - 722 runs (2018)
  • Rahmat Shah - 646 runs (2019)
  • Rahmanullah Gurbaz - 631 runs (2023)*
  • Rahmat Shah - 616 runs (2022)

It is evident that Rahmat Shah was one of the consistent batters from Afghanistan as he top-scored in three years. The year 2023 has not been the one for Rahmat as he is struggling to score runs. But in the last couple of games, he spent time in the middle and slowly getting his form back. Today was all about Ibrahim, as he helped the Afghanistan team post a total of 291 with his exceptional knock of 129 runs.
