Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan is slated to sit out the upcoming 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Kolkata. However, there's optimism about his return from injury for the clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 1 May, as mentioned by PBKS bowling coach Sunil Joshi on Thursday, April 25.

PBKS hasn't had the smoothest ride in this season of the Indian Premier League. With just two wins in eight games so far, the team has faced its share of challenges.

Adding to their struggles is the absence of skipper Shikhar Dhawan. The dynamic left-handed opener sustained a shoulder injury during PBKS's encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 9, forcing him to miss three matches since then.

Addressing reporters ahead of their away fixture against KKR, Joshi said that Dhawan could return to action within a week.

“He was in form and we really missed his batting services. We saw him batting yesterday, going through the nets and everything. He is on the road to recovery. Hopefully, he should be fit for the next game (against CSK)”  Sunil Joshi said on the eve of their match against KKR.

Since Dhawan’s injury, Sam Curran has captained PBKS while elevating himself to the opening slot. Unfortunately, the team has suffered defeats in all three matches under the English all-rounder's leadership.

PBKS is set to face the in-form KKR at the Eden Gardens on Friday. Although Dhawan will be absent for this game, the franchise has assured that he will be fit for the match against CSK.
