Looks like time isn't going too well for Sri Lanka as they suffered yet another defeat in less than two weeks by the hands of Team India. First the men's team winning the Asia Cup 2023 and now in a thrilling display of cricketing prowess, India women secured their second gold medal in 19th Asian Games. Harmanpreet Kaur's side delivered a masterful performance in the final, overcoming a spirited Sri Lankan team by a margin of 19 runs.

Choosing to bat first on a challenging pitch, India faced an uphill battle against the unpredictable surface. However, they rose to the occasion, posting a total of 116 runs, thanks to the stellar contributions of Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Jemimah Rodrigues. Their combined efforts showcased resilience and skill in the face of adversity.

The bowlers were equally remarkable in India's triumph. Young sensation Titas Sadhu emerged as the star of the bowling attack, claiming three crucial wickets while conceding a mere six runs.

Every Indian bowler, except for Amanjot Kaur, who bowled just one over, made significant contributions by taking wickets. Sri Lanka struggled to find their footing and could only muster 97 runs in their chase.

This historic victory in women's cricket not only adds another gold to India's Asian Games medal tally but also serves as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the women cricketers who have consistently proven their mettle on the international stage.

As the nation celebrates this momentous achievement, it is evident that women's cricket in India has come of age and is on a trajectory of continuous growth and success. This gold medal win will undoubtedly inspire countless young girls to pursue their dreams in the sport and further solidify cricket's position as one of India's most beloved and cherished pastimes.

In the midst of this triumph, Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the men's side for the Asian Games 2022 and kick off their campaign from 3 October at Hangzhou.
