Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) walked away with a two-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in match number 23 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season at Mullanpur.

After charting 182 runs upfront, SRH fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar shattered Punjab Kings’ top-order with the prized scalps of captain Shikhar Dhawan and number three Prabhsimran Singh. The seasoned speedster eventually finished with match-winning figures of 2-32 in the high-scoring thriller.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar reveals masterplan for Dhawan

Shortly after removing Punjab Kings number three Prabhsimran Singh in the second over of his opening spell, Bhuvneshwar Kumar almost accounted for Shikhar Dhawan before Abdul Samad dropped a sitter at slips.

Bhuvneshwar eventually got his man a couple of deliveries later in the same over via some smart stumping from wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen. Interestingly, the speedster himself had asked Klaasen to come up to the stumps, as revealed by himself after the game.

“I asked Heinrich to come up to the stumps. There was no movement off the surface and Shikhar was stepping out of the crease. So, I wanted the keeper to come up.”

The 34-year-old also revealed how he adapts to situations on different surfaces. The cricketer further praised SRH’s number four Nitish Kumar Reddy for bashing a match-winning 37-ball 64 in the middle order.

“It depends on how you prepare. Everybody knows what you gonna do. But you have to keep doing the simple things right and keep doing those things regularly. Nitish batted really well. Even in the last game, he played well. Young talent is coming out and it’s a good thing for Indian cricket.”

Bhuvneshwar Kumar will now reprise his role for the SRH franchise in match number 30 of the IPL 2024 season against RCB.

The much-awaited contest will be staged at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 15.
