Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan received the early lifeline against SRH off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in match number 23 of the IPL 2024 season.

Opening the innings for his team while in pursuit of a challenging 183-run target, Dhawan carved 10* off the first 13 deliveries before he was dropped by Abdul Samad at first slip. To make matter worse for the ‘Orange Army’, the ball made its way to the boundary with Dhawan reaching a run-a-ball 14.

Cummins flabbergasted by early Shikhar Dhawan reprieve

Shikhar Dhawan stroked his way to 10* off 13 deliveries before his healthy outside edge off SRH seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was dropped by Abdul Samad at first slip.

SRH’s moment of blunder occurred during the fifth over of the Punjab Kings innings, at a time when they were precariously placed at 16-2. The dropped chance even left SRH skipper Pat Cummins astonished at the moment.

Fortunately for SRH, Bhuvneshwar Kumar eventually got his man a couple of deliveries later in the same over via some smart glove work from wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen

Shikhar Dhawan’s dismissal at 14 ended up dashing Punjab Kings’ run-chase ambitions further as they slipped to 20-3 in 4.4 overs.

Earlier in the match, SRH tonked 182-9 in their innings off the back of Nitish Kumar Reddy’s 37-ball 64 and Abdul Samad’s 12-ball 25-run finishing act at the death.

Meanwhile, dangermen and in-form batters Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen collectively failed on the Mullanpur surface in front of Punjab Kings bowlers.

Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowler from the Punjab Kings camp for his four-wicket haul, while Sam Curran and Harshal Patel also chipped in with two wickets each in the innings.
