It was a memorable moment for the touring Zimbabwe team to secure their first-ever victory on Australian soil when they prevailed by three wickets on Saturday.

The key architect of this win, Ryan Burl thinks his side will have added confidence when they will return to Australia for T20 World Cup next month.

Batting first, most of the Australian batters (barring David Warner) succumbed to the proficient line lengths of visitors, to get bundled out for 141.

Burl was introduced into the attack on the 27th over, with Australia at 128/5. The 28-year-old made an immediate impact by sending Glenn Maxwell and Ashton Agar back to the hut.

In his second over, the off-spinner took the most important wicket of Warner (94). Soon, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were also his victims.

In response, Zimbabwe chased down the target with the contributions of Regis Chakabva (37*) and Tadiwanashe Marumani (35).

Rightfully, Burl was named Player of the Match for his figures of 5/10, which resulted in Zimbabwe ending their Tour on a high.

"Massively important going out to bat there, I got 10 of the 20 runs and tried to do my job. We'll take the confidence from the win, we come back here for the T20 World Cup, no better preparation than beating Australia," said Burl in the post match interaction.

Zimbabwe hoping to turn tables in T20 WC

Often Zimbabwe have been under the scanner for their lacklustre performances. However, they are currently in process of gaining their lost ground.

The African nation started the 2022 season with a qualification into the T20 World Cup and followed it up by series victory against Bangladesh.

Although they lost the series against top teams like India and Australia, the Zimbabwean team surely have gained much experience leading up to the event.
