He will remain crucial for India: Nehra accentuates Suryakumar's importance

With the T20 World Cup 2022 less than two months away, the Indian team management would be looking to end the debate surrounding a spot or two in the ongoing Asia Cup itself.

While fans are seemingly not very impressed with KL Rahul's form, Avesh Khan too is being viewed with a microscope. Although there are still some pieces left to fill the puzzle, one such batter who inarguably has punched his ticket for the upcoming ICC event is Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar's latest knock against Hong Kong can be served as a testament to this statement. As all other batters struggled, the swashbuckler with his unorthodox stroke play scored 68 runs off 26 deliveries to take India to 192/2.

He will definitely be in the XI: Nehra remarks on SKY

Commenting on the same, the former India pacer Ashish Nehra stated the importance of the 31-year-old in the team. The 2011 World Cup winner opined that Suryakumar's ability to bat at any position offers flexibility to the Rohit Sharma-led side.

"No matter whichever position you play Suryakumar Yadav, he will remain crucial for India. He has done well wherever he has batted and has the ability to bat through any situation, having shown the same for Mumbai Indians as well as for India. He may not be blessed with the power-hitting ability of Pant on Hardik Pandya. But he still plays with the field and hits it all around the park. Suryakumar has performed incredibly well and he will definitely be in the XI, let alone in the 15," Nehra said as quoted on the ICC Review.

"This gives you flexibility because if you play Rishabh Pant, then you can adjust him and Yadav in the No.4 or No.5 position according to the situation. I feel that your 15 for the T20 World Cup is a roundabout set and need not be tinkered with," he added.

Speaking of Suryakumar, he has treaded the path to success in his T20I career. Since making his T20I debut against England in 2021, the Delhi-born has played 25 matches in the format, scoring 758 runs at an average and strike-rate of 39.89 and 177.51, respectively.
