Afghanistan Name Asia Cup 2023 Squad, Rahmat Shah & Karim Janat Return

Afghanistan recently lost an ODI series vs Pakistan [X.com]

In a significant development, Afghanistan have named a formidable 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. The team, led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, is a brilliant amalgamation of experience and youth. The ACB selection committee has recalled experienced all-rounder Karim Janat, excluding budding cricketer Azmatullah Omarzai, who recently suffered an injury during the Pakistan ODIs. 

The squad also sees the return of veteran batters Rahmat Shah and Najibullah Zadran, who were ruled out of the Pakistan ODIs due to injury. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who recently played a stellar knock against Pakistan, will open alongside Ibrahim Zadran, while Rahmat, Najib and Mohammad Nabi will bat in the middle order alongside skipper Shahidi.

Ikram Ali Khil also finds a place in the reserves, while top-order batter Riaz Hasan, who featured in the Pakistan series, also retains his spot. 

Talking about the Afghan bowling unit, they have a rampant spin department comprising Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Noor Ahmad alongside Nabi. On the other hand, Fazalhaq Farooqi will spearhead the Afghan pace attack, also studded with Abdul Rahman.
