To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-anticipated ICC World Cup is all set to take centre stage in India later this year. The tournament, spanning one and a half months, will see ten top-tier teams battle it out on Indian soil for the coveted trophy currently held by England.

Meanwhile, as reported by Cricbuzz, the historic Ahmedabad city is likely to host the opening ceremony on October 4, a day before the tournament's commencement. Although the concerned authorities are yet to finalise the venue, the picturesque Narendra Modi Stadium, scheduled to host the tournament opener and final, is believed to be the front-runner to stage the event.

The ceremony involving several cultural programmes will also be graced by the members of the ICC, the executive board of the global cricket governing body, and representatives of the BCCI. However, the spotlight will be on the captains of the ten participating teams, as they will undergo a formal briefing session.

Talking about the previous World Cup held in the subcontinent back in 2011, the opening ceremony was conducted in Dhaka, with the captains entering the venue on decorated rickshaws, symbolising the city's vibrant culture. While an official word is yet to come, something similar, representing India's rich cultural heritage, is expected to be on show on the much-awaited occasion.
