Test Cricket, the purest form of the game and the most reputed format produced some thrilling cricket in year 2023. The Ashes, Border Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia were some of the marquee series, and there were quality world-class cricketers who stood tall in the toughest format of the game.

So, keeping those performances in mind, here is OneCricket's Test XI of the year 2023, comprising of players who rocked the Test scene and passed the ultimate Test with flying colours.

Usman Khawaja (Australia)

Usman Khawaja was by far the best opener in Test cricket during the year 2023. He slammed 1210 runs in 24 innings with a brilliant average of 52.60. He also scored his runs all over the globe, hitting centuries in India as well as in England.

His performances were instrumental in Australia reaching the WTC final and winning it, and it was the finest calendar year in Usman Khawaja's career.

Rohit Sharma (India)

Rohit Sharma started off 2023 in Test cricket with a bang by scoring a fantastic century against Australia on a difficult track at Nagpur. He also scored century in West Indies when India toured Caribbean before Asia Cup and looked in fine touch in WTC final too.

Overall, he scored 540 runs in 13 innings at an average of nearly 41.92 and would make a deadly combination with Usman Khawaja at the top of the order.

Kane Williamson (New Zealand)

The Kiwi star batter was in his elements in 2023 despite injuries accompanying him regularly. He batted in 13 innings and scored 695 runs at an average of 57.91 with four centuries in it.

He scored four back-to-back centuries which included one double ton against Sri Lanka and it is hard to look past Kane Williamson for that all-important number 3 spot.

Joe Root (England)

Joe Root has been in supreme touch in recent times and has been scoring runs for fun especially in Test cricket. He has also improved his strike rate and has stamped his authority with classy cricket.

In the 14 innings he batted in 2023, Joe Root scored 787 runs at an average of 65.58 and a brilliant strike rate of 76.33. He has hit two centuries and 5 fifties also along the way and has been made batting looking ridiculously easy.

Travis Head (Australia)

Travis Head had a dream 2023 and was one of Australia's biggest assets across formats. His knock in the WTC final against India was the game-changer and it is his aggressive strokeplay that sets him apart from the lot.

In the 23 innings, he scored 919 runs with an average of 41.77 and a strike rate of 75.57 with a hundred and five fifties. He knocks have also come when Aussies were under pressure or on difficult tracks and is a deserving number 5 batter in this team.

Harry Brook (England)

Harry Brook is one of the finest young talents in world cricket currently. He was in belligerent form in 2023 and smashed 701 runs in 14 innings. He scored his runs at a average of 53.92 and at astonishing strike rate of 91.51.

He scored six 50s and a century and just like Travis Head, he delivers with impact which makes him a hot property.

Jonny Bairstow (WK) (England)

Bairstow takes wicketkeeper's spot ahead of Tom Blundell who has also done well in 2023. Bairstow missed lot of Test cricket in 2023 but has temperament for big matches which he showed in Ashes.

He scored 322 runs in 9 innings with an average of 40.25 and at a strike rate of 77.03. 

Ravindra Jadeja (India)

Ravindra Jadeja gets a nod ahead of Nathan Lyon and Ravi Ashwin because of his contributions with the bat along with his bowling.

Ravindra Jadeja picked 33 wickets in just 14 innings and provides the control as well when the conditions are not in favour of spinners.  He has a brilliant bowling average of 19.39 and with the bat, he has scored 281 runs in 9 innings at an average of 35.12.

Pat Cummins (C) (Australia)

The Australian skipper displayed his leadership skills in 2023 but continued his great form with the ball as well. He picked 42 wickets in 19 innings in Test cricket and in the final game of the year, he picked up a 10-wicket haul against Pakistan.

He took his wickets at an average of 27.50 and a strike rate of 45.73. His accuracy and his ability to bowl long spells in testing conditions makes him one of the finest Test bowlers of this generation.

Stuart Broad (England)

Stuart Broad retired from international cricket in 2023 and made his last year a memorable one. He was on absolute fire in the Ashes and picked 38 wickets in just 16 innings.

He was the second leading wicket takers among pacers in 2023 and displayed his vintage magic in 2023. 

Mitchell Starc (Australia)

Starc is the x-factor in any format he plays and delivered plenty of quality pefrormances in 2023. He has picked same wickets as Broad in 2023 in exactly same amount of innings and has a better strike rate than Broad. So, with left arm angle and performances under his belt, he completes our Test XI.
