It was another top-class effort from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who thumped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday in IPL 2024 in front of a packed crowd as openers Sunil Narine and Phil Salt attacked the opposition bowlers.

Firstly, restricting RCB to a sub-par total of 182 for six wickets in 20 overs, KKR's Andre Russell was the major enforcer with the ball, picking two wickets for 29 runs in his four-over spell. Virat Kohli from the RCB camp was the top scorer with 83 from 59 balls, coming alongside four fours and four sixes, which pushed them towards a total worth defending.

However, KKR's explosive opener, Narine, thumped the RCB bowlers with five sixes in his 22-ball innings, scoring a magnificent 47. In the end, KKR chased the score down within the 17th over, with Venkatesh and Shreyas Iyer scoring runs in the latter half of the second innings.

After the game, skipper Shreyas Iyer spoke to broadcasters, praising the all-rounder Andre Russell for getting something out of this wicket.

"Coming here, getting those two sessions of practice, we were in a good shape from the previous game. Coming and hitting few balls, it felt comfortable from within. The way Russell came in and realised the wicket wasn't giving much from bowlers, and went to slower ones, analysing the conditions on the spot was pleasing to the eye," Iyer said.

Further, speaking about the decision to send Narine as an opener, he mentioned they weren't really sure about it, but it ultimately paid off in the end, as his job was to clear the infield, and he did that brilliantly.

"The communication was brilliant. See when (Sunil) Narine comes in to open, he knows he has one job which is to clear the infield. Today we were contemplating whether to start with him or not but he did a brilliant job. From one end, it was good to bat on. From the other end it was two paced. That was the communication we had in the middle and we passed it onto others."

KKR was brilliant in the field today, earning two crucial points and their second victory in succession. Their next aim will be to get past the Delhi Capitals on 3rd April in Vizag.
