The first T20I match against the West Indies did not down as planned for Team India, who lost the Trinidad encounter by four runs on Thursday. Chasing 150, India playing their 200th T20I match, managed just 145 runs, despite needing 35 off 30 with Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson still in the middle.

Wickets at regular intervals and disciplined bowling by Windies brought India's downfall.

Arshdeep Singh, who made a return to national colours, speaking in the post-match presser backed India's playing XI after the loss.

Singh claimed wickets of Rovman Powell, and Shimron Hetmyer, helping India restrict Windies under 150.

As quoted by Sportskeeda, the left-arm pace bowler explained that India were confident of winning the match with their chosen XI, discarding theories about playing one batter short.

Here's what Singh said

"Not really. Such things always come up after the end of the game. We were confident of winning the match with the playing XI we fielded. We always back our team and the playing XI. Whether there are six bowlers or nine, it doesn’t matter. The 11 players who take the field back each other to win the match from any situation.

I guess we needed one batter to stay till the end because in their last two overs, five fielders were inside the 30-yard circle,”

Singh further stated that team management and players will evaluate in depth how India could have performed better moving forward.

The action will shift from Trinidad to Guyana for the second T20I of the five-match series, which will be played on Sunday, with West Indies leading 1-0.
