In the 52nd IPL 2024 match, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clinched victory against Gujarat Titans (GT) , marking their fourth win in the tournament. This win keeps RCB in contention, with only Mumbai Indians (MI) eliminated from the league.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed an unusual competitive pitch with significant turn, seam and bounce. Gujarat Titans set a target of 148 runs batting first at a ground where most games see 190+. RCB started their return innings aggressively, led by Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli.

RCB aimed to improve their net run rate, crucial for their standings. Du Plessis scored a rapid 64 off 23 balls, which took RCB to their highest powerplay score of 92/1.

However, RCB suffered a collapse then, slipping to 117/6 in just five overs. Luckily Dinesh Karthik and Swapnil Singh's partnership rescued RCB to victory.

Post game, Faf Du Plessis talked about how RCB's sole focus on NRR almost cost them the game and how they tried to calm down after loosing 4 wickets.

"Yes we wanted to go out there and get the total quickly to boost the NRR but probably when we were 4 down, we had to calm down a little bit," Faf said after the game.

With this crucial win, RCB climbs to 7th place, relegating MI to last. If RCB wins their final 3 games and other results favor them, they have a fair chance to make it to playoffs.
