In a recent video shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC), former England captain Nasser Hussain has identified two rising cricket stars whom he believes will shape the future of the sport. Expressing his admiration for Gill, Hussain remarked,

"I am going with Shubman Gill. I think he had a stellar three-quarters, nine-tenths of 2023. He must have gained invaluable insights from playing alongside the likes of Rohit Sharma. Despite a brief setback due to illness towards the end of the year, he is a super talent and is destined to be the next sensation for India for years to come. Hopefully, he will have a fantastic 2024."

Gill's impressive statistics for the year 2023 underscore his rising star status. Across 47 international games, he accumulated 2,126 runs at an impressive average of 48.31, including seven centuries and ten fifties.

Despite facing challenges in Tests and T20Is, Gill's dominance in ODIs has been noteworthy, making him the highest run-scorer in international cricket by the end of the year.

Turning the spotlight to Rachin Ravindra, Hussain highlighted the Kiwi all-rounder's standout performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

"And it was Ravindra who lit up the World Cup 2023 in India. I'd seen him a couple of times in England before the World Cup. He came in at Lord's down the order and showcased his capabilities. When given the chance at the top of the order, he was a revelation. Hopefully, he can keep getting better from here," Hussain said.

Ravindra emerged as the fourth-highest run-getter in the Cricket World Cup, amassing 578 runs in 10 matches at an astounding average of 106.44, featuring three centuries and two fifties.

His overall performance in 37 international matches throughout the year included 911 runs at an average of 36.44, with a strike rate exceeding 110. Additionally, Ravindra showcased his versatility by contributing with the ball, taking 23 wickets across all formats in 2023.

Both Gill and Ravindra have undoubtedly had a remarkable year, with Gill's skills in ODIs and Ravindra's stellar World Cup performance standing out. Only time will tell whether Nasser Hussain's predictions hold true or if the unpredictable nature of cricket takes its course.

Whether Gill will continue his upward trajectory in 2024 and Ravindra can build on his World Cup success remains to be seen, but cricket fans worldwide will undoubtedly watch these up-and-coming stars closely.
