Islamabad United had a great start to the PSL 2024 defeating Lahore Qalandars by eight wickets chasing 196. However, they couldn't continue the momentum and had to taste a defeat against Multan Sultans by five wickets.

Legendary fast bowler and former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram raised questions on the batting position of Islamabad skipper Shadab Khan who came out to bat at number seven.

Akram unhappy with Shadab coming out to bat at seven

Shadab Khan who is leading Islamabad United is considered the best all-rounder Pakistan has in the current setup. He has been a match-winner both with the ball and the bat in PSL and for Pakistan as well. Shadab has the ability to score quick runs and turn the momentum of the game to his team's favour.

In Islamabad's first match of the season, Shadab came out to bat at number three and played a brilliant knock of 74 runs off just 41 balls smashing six fours and five sixes.

Khan also contributed with the bowl claiming a wicket in his spell of four overs for just 24 runs. He was also named the player of the match for his performance. Wasim Akram was very unhappy with the decision of sending Shadab at number seven in the match against Multan Sultans

“When you have a captain who is in form and scored 74 in 41 balls in the previous match, why didn’t he come in to bat at three or four? He [Shadab] said in the post-match press conference that the wicket was a bit difficult which is why I wanted to send in a proper batter. I hope that was a language barrier because if that’s case it means that he will come out to bat early when the pitch is easy but send anyone else if that’s not the case."
