'They Played Good Shots...': Gaikwad Credits Gill And Sudharsan For Outplaying CSK With The Bat

After their 35-run defeat to the bottom-ranked Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad lamented their poor fielding, acknowledging that they conceded 10-15 extra runs during the first innings. Gaikwad also lauded GT batters for performing admirably on a flat Ahmedabad pitch.

Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan's impressive centuries allowed GT to bolster their playoff aspirations and upset CSK by 35 runs on Friday, May 10. GT's opening duo forged a formidable 210-run partnership after being put in to bat.

With the ball, Mohit Sharma spearheaded the attack, ably supported by Rashid Khan, as they contained the lengthy CSK batting lineup to a total of 196.

CSK's fielding performance was lacklustre, with Tushar Deshpande dropping a straightforward chance at long-off to give Gill a lifeline, while Moeen Ali grassed David Miller's catch. Conversely, GT displayed sharp fielding skills, executing run-outs and taking catches to impede CSK's progress.

Fielding let us down, says Gaikwad

Reflecting on their sixth loss of the season, skipper Gaikwad conceded that while the team executed their plans well overall, lapses in the field led to the leakage of crucial runs.

“Our fielding let us down, we gave away 10-15 runs extra I think, execution wise we were good, but they played some really good shots. You can't control batters when they playing so well and going good,” said Ruturaj Gaikwad in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Despite the tough loss in Ahmedabad, CSK remain at the fourth position on the points table with six victories and six defeats, accumulating a total of 12 points with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.491. Their upcoming match is scheduled for Sunday, where they will face the formidable Rajasthan Royals at their home ground.
