'Seniors Have Played Enough,' Harbhajan Singh Believes India Should Take High Road for WI Tour

Team India, under Rohit Sharma, lost the WTC 2023 final against Australia, despite featuring multiple senior members in the side. The Indian team will now travel to West Indies next month, in a tour which includes two Tests, three ODIs and five T20I matches. The Test segment of the tour will launch India’s next WTC campaign, as players get a breathing gap until July 12.

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, meanwhile, is of the opinion that the selectors should pick younger players and rest some out-of-form seniors while selecting their squads for team’s Caribbean trip.

Harbhajan Singh believes seniors have played enough

Harbhajan Singh believes that the selection committee should try out some new faces for India’s upcoming tour of West Indies. The legendary spinner stated that the players should be selected based on their recent IPL 2023 and domestic performance, and claimed that seniors have played enough cricket and should be rested.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, he said:

"The seniors have played enough cricket and should be rested. I urge the board to not delay this any further and send a young team to the West Indies."

Moreover, Singh also backed Akash Madhwal to travel to West Indies, where he wants Shubman Gill to open the innings for India alongside Rajasthan Royals star Yashasvi Jaiswal. The former cricketer also advocated Axar Patel to be team’s leading all-rounder, while opting his spinners in the form of Ravi Bishnoi and Yuzvendra Chahal.

"I will take Axar Patel as the all-rounder and then the two spinners in Ravi Bishnoi and Yuzvendra Chahal. Akash Madhwal had a great IPL and I feel he should be there in the team as well. Shubman Gill will definitely be one of the openers. I would like to see them try Yashasvi Jaiswal as the other opener."
