Ravichandran Ashwin recalled the immediate aftermath of India's heartbreaking loss in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad on November 19 and revealed two legends skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli "were crying" inside the dressing room.

After doing their best not to shed tears on the field when the Australians won and they went through their celebrations, Kohli and Rohit entered the dressing room and couldn't control their emotions any further.

The bona fide giants of Indian cricket felt absolutely shocked and horrific at missing out on perhaps their final opportunity to reclaim world cricket's biggest crown for the nation.

Rohit and Virat were crying: R Ashwin post WC setback

It would remain a setback for the ages, one that would leave dents and scars in the minds of the current generation of Indian fans how the team stormed into the summit clash after an excellent unbeaten streak but stumbled at the final hurdle at the Motera Stadium.

Speaking on his YouTube channel alongside former Tamil Nadu teammate S Badrinath, Ashwin revealed the sombre dressing atmosphere where even the most experienced individuals Rohit and Kohli were left teary-eyed after the gutwrenching loss to Australia in the World Cup 2023 final.

"Yes, we felt the pain. Rohit and Virat were crying. Seeing that it felt bad," Ashwin recalled before underlining how the two greats exhibited wonderful spirit and professionalism in lifting the mood of the rest of the camp.

"It was not meant to be. This team was an experienced team. Everybody knew what to do. And then, it was professional. Everybody knew their routines and warm-ups. I think two natural leaders gave the team the space to do these two and created a vibe," he added.
