'Rohit Bhai My Idol' - Shreyas Iyer Reminisces Idolising Rohit Sharma Over Mumbai Connect

Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer recently revealed Rohit Sharma being his childhood inspiration and how he grew up idolising Rohit since the duo shared the same roots.

Shreyas Iyer bursted into the scene in 2017 and quickly established himself as a reliable middle-order batsman in limited-overs cricket. However, injury setbacks shunted his growth as Iyer found himself being frequently in and out of the team. 

Moreover, a recent communication with BCCI over an alleged injury concern, stripped Iyer of his central contract. Regardless, the Mumbai born is striving hard to regain the apex body’s trust before T20 World Cup approaches.

That being said, Shreyas Iyer recently appeared on a Netflix laughter show called The Kapil Sharma Show hosted by mainstream comedian, Kapil Sharma. Iyer was accompanied by Indian captain Rohit Sharma as the duo graced the entertainment show with their presence.

During a conversation with host comedian, Shreyas Iyer was asked to reveal his childhood inspiration that drove him to pursue cricket as a legitimate career.

Iyer quickly turned to his side to name fellow Mumbaikar Rohit Sharma as his idol. He said the common roots the duo shares as Mumbai-based cricketers attracted him to look up to Rohit and follow in his footsteps. 

"Rohit bhai is my idol since childhood - he is from Mumbai and I am also from Mumbai - I have grown up watching him," Iyer said.

While Iyer took massive inspiration from Rohit Sharma while growing up, eventually, he is set on a path to carve his own journey in the realms of international cricket.

Currently, things are running against his favour, and his true character as a professional athlete is being put to the test.

As IPL 2024 continues to unfold, all eyes will be on Shreyas Iyer as to how he manages to reclaim his central contract.
